“My education and extracurricular involvement at the Mount led me to where I am today in my career. I was highly involved on campus which taught me time management, organization and event planning. I love being able to plan and execute events on such a large scale. I strongly believe I would not be where I am today without my education and my overall experience at Mount St. Joseph.”

Wayne serves as Associate Pastor and worship leader at Grove City United Methodist Church. He was ordained into the ministry in 1998. Our lives revolve around volunteering at church and attending to the kids’ activities.
The Mount had a profound impact on my life. I was blessed to have attended there and will be forever grateful for not only the education I received but for the friendships that were formed and the life skills that I gained. I am excited about serving on the Alumni Board.”

Stephanie Gfroerer-Honebrink lives in Cincinnati, Ohio. She grew up in Mount Washington and just bought a house there. Stephanie graduated in 2003 with a Bachelors Degree in Gerontology, and since leaving the Mount has been very busy. She was just named the Admission Director at Western Hills Retirement Village. Stephanie is engaged to Tony Honebrink and will be getting married in September. A lot of her close friends are all from the Mount, and she sees most of them almost every weekend.
“I was constantly busy at the Mount and thought that once I would graduate that I would never be that busy well I was wrong I am just as busy if not busier. But I like to keep a balance between work and FUN. I have nothing but good things to say about the Mount. I had a great time. Without the Mount I don’t think that I would be where I am today. The Mount gave me life long friendships and also knowledge and goals that will be with me for the rest of my life. Being as involved as I was while at the Mount, it gave me a lot of the skills that I have for work and also personal skills as well.”

Joseph Harmon, originally from Jackson, TN, graduated from the Mount in 1999 with a degree in Bus Admin and TQM. He then went on to get his MSOL in 2005. His family has also grown from three people to four with the addition of his youngest son.
“The education that I received from the Mount has given me a repository of knowledge to guide me through the ever changing circumstances that occur in everyday life, especially raising teenagers. My education from the Mount has also allowed me to attain some career goals like moving from software development into management. The Mount gave me the tools to take advantage of the management opportunity when it presented itself.”

“The Mount holds many special memories for me. I love nursing and I am an advocate for nurses. My undergraduate education really shaped my life, both personally and professionally. I maintain contact with my roommates from my days at the Mount, and I value my Catholic education, professional knowledge, and the friendships that have lasted many, many years. I am proud to serve on the Alumni Board and to be able to share the accomplishments with others, as the Mount continues to change and move forward with its Vision for Educational Excellence. With a daughter in high school, we are often looking at colleges and the value of a small college with personal attention, I know, first hand, is priceless.”

In addition to my job, I design the School’s web site and teach staff members about technology and how it is implemented in differentiated instruction. I volunteer for the Women’s Connection in Price Hill and have begun to quilt. I am currently working on my fifth quilt, and I also knit, garden, and travel.

“My two grand-daughters are currently the light of our life and keep the whole family on our toes. The many opportunities I have had since leaving the Mount have focused on implementing my science background mainly in the area of research and conservation. I have also focused on helping to get under-represented individuals more interested in science and conservation through educational opportunities and public awareness. I have had the privilege of raising awareness in my own country of Trinidad as well as here in the U.S. through some successful conservation and community education projects. I have also been fortunate to work with Co-op students from the College of Mt. St. Joseph in my position at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden. In May of 2005, I felt honored to deliver the commencement address to the graduating class at the Mount and to receive an Honorary Doctorate degree.
I feel very indebted to the Mount for the successful career and personal life that I now enjoy. My 4-year scholarship to the Mount in 1963 set the stage for everything that followed. The education I received, the friendships that I formed, the unwavering love and support from the Sisters of Charity and the college community, the values that were so strongly reinforced all remain an integral part of my life. The Mount became my “home away from home” for 4 years and it continues to be a place that I can still call home. That is a blessing to be treasured. My hope is to be able to continue to support the Mount and its mission so that others may experience the benefits that I have from such an exceptional institution of higher learning.”

Libbey M. Spiess, M.D. graduated from the Mount in 1988 with a BS in Chemistry. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Cincinnati in 1992 and has been a pediatrician withQueen City Physicians, Ltd., Cincinnati, Ohio since 1996. She is also an active member of the medical staff at Childrens Hospital Medical Center. Some of her involvements in the Cincinnati community include being an active member of the Board of Trustees for the Women’s Connection in Price Hill, serving as a mentor for high school students, and being a member of the Childrens Hospital Medical Center Home Care Advisory Committee.
After graduating from the Mount, I attended medical school at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Subsequently, I did my internship and residency at Childrens Hospital Medical Center, where we took care of children from all over the United States and beyond. Childrens Hospital is consistently ranked as one of the top 10 Childrens Hospitals in the country, so it was a great blessing to work there and to learn from many outstanding doctors and nurses. Although I work in a private practice these days, I am still on the medical staff of Childrens Hospital, and I enjoy teaching residents and students.
Attending the Mount certainly prepared me for life and a successful career. I thrived in the Mount environment and benefited from the small class size and personalized attention. While I was at the Mount, I felt constant support from those around me. Administrators, professors, classmates, coaches, housekeepers, maintenance workers, and the Sisters of Charity were all part of my Mount "family." They cheered me on in volleyball, school, and life!
The example set by the Sisters of Charity in the areas of service, education, and morality were an important part of my Mount experience. As a religious person, the Mount built on the strong Catholic foundation that had been an important part of my entire life. I hold some individual Sisters of Charity in the highest esteem, and I consider them as strong, smart women. My Mount experience taught me many valuable lessons, and my college days were some of the most influential and important times in my life. I thank God that I was able to attend the Mount. The Mount started me on a path for life with self-confidence, strong values, and a determined spirit. I truly believe the Mount is somewhat responsible for the positive things I've been able to achieve in life thus far.

Randy Dorsey, of Batavia, Ohio graduated in 2003 with a B.A. in Graphic Design. He is currently employed by the Clermont County Juvenile Court as an educator.
“Since graduating in 2003, I found the job market very difficult and very competitive here in Cincinnati. I decided to walk away from my Graphic Design Degree and began Substitute teaching. I have had several long-term assignments at Batavia Local Schools and Foresthill’s Local Schools Districts. I am currently attending graduate school at Wilmington College; I intend to receive my licensure in Special Education in the spring of 2008. I am currently working for Clermont County Juvenile Court at the Detention Center teaching young men and women the skills necessary to pass the Ohio Graduation Tests. At the Mount, I have made great life-long friends that have been influential people in my life. The values that were instilled in me, by my peers, teachers, and family will continue to be a part of my life. I am very proud to be one of Jim and Linda Dorsey’s three sons (Jimmy Dorsey, Randy Dorsey, and T.J. Dorsey), who have graduated from the College of Mount Saint Joseph. I hope to be able to engage younger alumni like myself to get involved at the college.

Kathy Marquard Braniff, originally from Cleveland, Ohio resides in Mishawaka, IN, with her husband Will, and four of their five children. She also has one grandchild. She graduated in 1980 with a BS in Medical Technology, and received her Masters of Science in Administration, University of Notre Dame in 1998. She is employed at South Bend Medical Foundation as a Laboratory Manager at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. She is involved in various marriage preparation and support ministries like Engaged Encounter, Teams of Our Lady, and Focus & Refocus programs. Kathy has always been interested in music and is a choir member and cantor at her church. Her daughter, Maureen works in the Alumni Office at the Mount and is graduating in 2007.
“My Mount relationship is unique in that my mom attended the CMSJ as a nursing graduate in 1954. I attended as a Medical Technology major, not because my mom attended but because the college made me feel at home. My daughter is now attending as an English major, not because I went there but for her own reasons. This shows me that the Mt St Joe has an attraction that is timeless. It is beyond majors or generations.”

Karl Power graduated in 2000 with a BS in Natural Science and a Criminal Justice minor. He is employed by the City of Cincinnati as a chemist, and The College of Mount St. Joseph as an Adjunct instructor of Criminology.
“After graduation, I received my Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Xavier University and have taught a course in Criminology at the Mount. My wife (Dr. Georgana Taggart) and I celebrated our 25th anniversary with a trip to Cyprus and London in May of 2006. Over the past several years, I have successfully run the Fine Arts Fund campaign for my division of the City. An avid picture taker (not a photographer), I have entered pictures in several shows and have taken shots of several athletic events at The Mount. I can be found in tailgate spot #1 at The Mount football games, flipping burgers for anyone who stops by. Musically, I sing in my church choir and occasionally perform with various bagpipe and drum bands. The education I received at the Mount has given me the opportunity to broaden my experience in life. As an adjunct, I really enjoy the interaction with students and faculty at The Mount.”

Ginny Martini Beckenhaupt graduated in 1986 with her BSN, and is a Cardiology Nurse Specialist with Greater Cincinnati Cardiovascular Consultants. She resides in Cincinnati with her husband Matt, and their three children.“My nursing career started at Jewish Hospital in 1980 after graduating from Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing. After receiving my BSN from the Mount, I held many positions in my career including staff nurse and management in orthopedics, ICU, CCU, open Heart ICU, CVSU and Cardiac Cath lab/Special Procedures. Somehow in between those positions we managed to have a family. Our oldest daughter, Meredith is 19 and is studying engineering at UC. Kelsey is 17 and is a junior at Mercy High School and is interested in interior design and our Jarred is 16 and a sophomore at LaSalle and is interested in the military. I have been involved in our church, St Ignatius for many years in several parish activities, RCIA and Eucharistic ministry. I hope to travel with some fellow parishioners to Guatemala in the future to offer my nursing skills in a medical clinic. The Mount education was highly respected when I was going there, and I was, and still am very proud to be an alumni. I am at a point in my life that I would like to “give back” to those who have had an impact on who I am and serving on the Alumni Board is one way of getting this done.”

Lucile H. Maher, lives in Cleveland Ohio and graduated from the Mount in 1954 with a BSN. While technically retired, she works as a staff nurse with Community Outreach, St. John West Shore Hospital in Westlake Ohio
“I went into pediatric nursing following graduation and State Boards, then into Public Health nursing where I spent the remainder of my career. I obtained MPH from University of Michigan in 1968. That led to being the MCH Nursing Consultant for the Tennessee Department of Health. It was a marvelous way to see that beautiful state, and to work in the field of Public Health in all local health departments. I had the opportunity to work with nurses who were eager to enhance their knowledge and had not had the opportunities to be grounded in Public Health as I had. I became nursing director at Akron Ohio Health Department in January, 1977, and completed my formal working years there in the 1990’s. These positions and years provided many opportunities for college and university adjunct nursing faculty status and preceptoring students in baccalaureate and master programs. I have served on various community and church boards and committees, and held membership and committee/elected positions with various professional associations in states where I worked and nationally. These were tremendous growth opportunities!
The Mount education I received proved to be the foundation for my practice in nursing and the incentive to continue learning, teaching, and sharing my principles, values and knowledge of what nursing can be. My Catholic faith was reinforced; my thinking was challenged, slowly I came to the recognition of the need to give back to my family, my faith, my profession, and to the Mount.”

Grace is an avid biker, and has even taken some bike trips with Sr. Francis Marie Thrailkill.

“We have two grown daughters who share our passion for spiritual service to God and country. We enjoy scuba diving and exploring the under waters around the world in our spare time. When home, we love spending time with our five grandchildren. One is a student at the Mount and our twin grandchildren start college at IU and Asbury College this fall. My business management degree from the Mount has helped me accomplish all my career goals. My determination and management skills have helped me successfully complete whatever changes and challenges I have encountered in 20 years of service to non-profit organizations.”

"Throughout the years of volunteering and working in human services, what I love most is making a difference. To be able to impact people’s lives on a daily basis is a gift that I treasure.”

“The Mount has blessed my life ever so greatly…The friends I met at the Mount have been a gift beyond compare, the Mount has and will always be a second family to me, a home away from home, and it has nourished, supported and called my faith to grow…for which I will be eternally grateful.  The Mount is a very special place that nurtures the mind, as well as, the spirit.  May it continue its mission of serving God’s people as I hope to be an integral part of supporting this mission as a member of the Alumni Board.”
