This fall we are happy to welcome two new faculty members to the Department of Sociology & Criminology.
Brooke Gialopsos, PhD
Dr. Brooke as the is an assistant professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology. She earned a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati, with focuses in Crime Prevention and Criminological Theory. She received a master’s degree in criminal justice from Texas State University and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Texas A&M University.
Her current research involves fear of crime and risk perceptions, school-based victimization, and repeat victimization. She is also interested in environmental criminology, situational crime prevention, academic dishonesty, and white-collar crime.
In addition to her academic interests, Dr. Brooke enjoys running, practicing yoga, reading, and watching sports.
Nazneen Kane, PhD
Dr. Kane is an assistant professor of sociology in the Department of Sociology and Criminology. She earned a Ph.D. in Sociology and a Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies from the University of Maryland.
Dr. Kane's areas of expertise lie in social inequalities, the sociology of religion and the sociology of globalization. Her current research examines the intersection of contemporary forms of race, class and gender inequality in religious settings.
Outside academic life, professor Kane enjoys arts and crafts, exploring the natural world and spending time with her family.
