Admission Process
There is a two-step admission process. The student enters the Mount declaring a social work major. After successful completion of the prerequisite courses and the Introduction to Social Work, the student requests admission to the professional program through an essay which demonstrates an understanding of the values of the profession and the personal maturity to abide by the professional code of ethics.
A student must also have completed 100 hours of volunteer or paid work in a social agency within the past five years. Students may take courses with a Service Learning option to fulfill this requirement. The Mount's nationally-recognized Service Learning program allows students the option to obtain an additional academic credit, tuition free, for faculty supervised volunteer service in conjunction with selected courses. Most of the social work courses offer this option, as well many of the liberal arts courses.
Non-Discrimination Policy
The Social Work Program at the College of Mount St. Joseph is an equal opportunity program and does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age or disability.
