This program has been approved by the American Bar Association.

Thank you for your interest in the paralegal studies program at the College of Mount St. Joseph.

The Mount’s ABA approved paralegal studies program is designed to prepare our students to become paralegals – professionals who perform substantive legal work under the supervision of a lawyer.  The Mount has been offering instruction in paralegal studies for more than 25 years.  The paralegal studies courses are taught by lawyers or lawyers and paralegals working as a team.

We provide paralegal students with knowledge of specific areas of law including litigation, real estate, estates and probate, and corporate

The Mount offers students the option of completing an ABA-approved bachelor, associate or post degree certificates in Paralegal Studies to paralegals in the U.S. Army JAG.

Program Requirements

In order to be eligible for our program, you must have completed your AIT Paralegal Specialist training (the 10 week course) on or after April of 2001.

If you completed your AIT course prior to April of 2001, or have never taken AIT training, you can still participate in our program.  In order to do so, you must be able to transfer at least 10 semester units of appropriate paralegal courses, prior to starting our program.  These courses must have met in a traditional classroom setting (no accelerated or distance learning courses).  These courses must be considered legal specialty courses, as defined by the American Bar Association.

We will be happy to review classes you have taken to determine whether they qualify.  If you have yet to take these courses, please contact our Paralegal Studies Department and we can assist you in locating a school in your area that offers these courses.

Award of Credit

In addition to course work taken at the Mount, our online Army JAG Paralegal Studies program will do the following:

  • Award credit for military work experience and training, and course work taken through the Judge Advocate General’s School.
  • Accept transfer credit from regionally accredited colleges and universities, including eArmyU, to be applied to general education requirements.
  • Award credit for passing score(s) on the College Level Examination Program (CLEP).

Students entering our program are treated as adult transfer students.  The College will accept transfer credit with a grade of “C” or better from regionally accredited colleges and universities. We will be happy to evaluate your transcripts and your military experience prior to enrolling in our program.

The Mount uses WebCT software to offer courses online.  Our students are located worldwide and have the convenience of logging onto the Web at their convenience. (Internet access is required to participate in our program).

Additional services offered to Mount students include Lexis access for students in the Reserves, access to our online library, career counseling services, resume writing, job placement, and an academic advisor to assist you with any questions or concerns.

Tuition

Per our agreement with the Army, students are eligible for tuition assistance for up to 6 hours per semester while in active military service.  Students are responsible for their books and any related course fees.  Financial Aid may be available to assist with book and fees.  You may contact our Student Services Office at (800) 654-9314 ext 4418) or by e-mail to joyce_sprague@mail.msj.edu.

The Mount offers students a tuition deferment plan so the only fees required up front will be the cost of your books.  Students are required to submit a Tuition Assistance form every semester they are enrolled in courses.

We look forward to helping you attain your educational goals.  Please contact us at (800)654-9314 ext 4864 or email us at mountjagparalegal@mail.msj.edu.
