Music
Study in the field of music offers a general humanistic education, as well as specific skills in musical expression, appreciation and aesthetic sensitivity. The music major offers the student an opportunity to analyze, interpret and communicate the works and emotions of the masters of music through performance, while developing and expanding her/his own personal means of creative expression.
Students who have majored in music may go on to careers as performers, directors or composers of music, but the skills and abilities developed by the discipline are also applicable in many other fields.
The music major has learned to analyze and convey the ideas of others, to develop original ideas, to interact and communicate with others, to solve problems, to set goals, to motivate and to lead. Such skills can be applied in business and industry, church work, and community and arts organizations, and also equip the student for graduate school in disciplines such as law, business or education.
