A commitment to developing complete musicians while focusing on career preparation is the hallmark of the Music Department at the Mount. Students work under the guidance of faculty accomplished as performers, composers and teachers. Performance opportunities include a variety of vocal and instrumental ensembles as well as departmental recitals. State-of-the-art technology is integrated into both theoretical and applied studies, helping to prepare students for the changing world of music.
The Bachelor of Arts in Music degree provides the student with a broad base of knowledge and performance skills for use toward a career requiring general musicianship. The Music Education program prepares students for a career in teaching music, whether in the classroom or private studio. Upon completion of appropriate course work, a provisional multi-age license (ages 3 through 21), is available through the Education Department, certifying graduates to teach in private, parochial and public schools.
All-Steinway School
All-Steinway Schools demonstrate a commitment to excellence by providing their students and faculties with the best equipment possible for the study of music. That is why the only pianos owned by the institution — from the practice room to the recital hall — are designed by Steinway & Sons.
