Historical study develops critical thinking, research and writing skills, and an appreciation of the impact of the past upon the present. The study of history also helps the student understand how our complex world has been shaped by political, social and economic relationships. An undergraduate history major is also excellent preparation for graduate school in business administration, education, law, social work, communications, and other areas.
Licensure for Teachers
Students choosing a major in history who also want to pursue Ohio teacher licensure must satisfy the requirements of the history major and additional requirements in humanities, behavioral science and education. The pertinent Adolescent to Young Adult Licensure (grades seven through twelve) is integrated social studies. The Mount also offers a concentration in social studies in the Middle Childhood Licensure (grades four through nine). Information on licensure is available from the Education Department, (513) 244-4812.
