Admission to the teacher education program is a separate process from admission to the college. Department admission is generally initiated by the student during their sophomore year. Admission packets are available in the Education Department, or may be downloaded. Formal admission to the Education Department is required prior to enrolling in certain upper level education courses, including practica.

Admission Procedures
The application packet materials may be picked up in the Education Department, or downloaded. When all of the required application materials are received, the Admission Committee will review the packet and make a recommendation for admission to the Department Chair. The Admission Committee meets monthly during regular fall and spring semesters. The Committee will review only complete packets.
Candidates for admission should keep in mind that they will be unable to enroll in courses requiring admission until formal admission has been granted. Therefore, students are encouraged to work with their faculty advisor to plan their application date accordingly, to avoid experiencing delays in progressing through their programs. (Note: Completed packets require PRAXIS results. It generally takes a minimum of 4 weeks for the college to receive score reports after taking the exam. Schedule the PRAXIS exam in order to allow ample time for the college to receive your scores.)
Candidates will be notified by letter upon acceptance or denial of their admission application.
Admission Appeals
Students who believe they have met all of the admission criteria yet were not admitted have the right to appeal. Admission appeals must be submitted within 10 working days of the date on the notification letter. Appeals should be in writing, and addressed to the Department Chair. The appeal letter should indicate how the admission requirements have been satisfied, and should be accompanied with a letter of support from the candidate’s faculty advisor.
