Jessica Jean (JJ) Smith received a Biochemistry degree from the Mount in the Spring of 2011 and received the Jane Cuni Armstrong and Co-op of the Year awards from the College of Mount St. Joseph during the commencement ceremony on May 7. The Jane Cuni Armstrong Award is given to a graduating senior who has shown consistent improvement and continued academic diligence, overcoming obstacles and difficulties.
One nominee wrote, “JJ is diligent, extremely hard working, always optimistic and positive, and has faced many hardships and challenges in her young life. Through it all, JJ has never wavered from her goals, has been kind and friendly to everyone, and has never showed any sign of the loss and pain she was facing in her personal life.”
This spring Smith was honored with the Mount’s Co-op of the Year Award. She completed seven semesters at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, working shoulder-to-shoulder with Dr. Hong Du and other full-time employees on long-term federally funded medical research. Her dedication and experience led to an offer of a full-time research position at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
