The College of Mount St. Joseph recognizes and gives credit for college-level learning which takes place outside of a college or university setting. Learning acquired must meet the criteria for college level learning as defined by the Council for Adult Education & Learning (CAEL) which states that college level learning must:

  • be measurable
  • be at a level of achievement defined by faculty as college equivalent
  • be applicable outside the context in which it was learned
  • have a knowledge base and be reasonably current
  • include both a theoretical and practical understanding of a subject area
  • show some relationship to your degree goals
  • not repeat learning for which credit has already been awarded.
