Individual Advising
Equally important in your search is personal attention and counseling. You can make an individual appointment and get to know an academic advisor skilled in helping you explore the Mount’s curriculum and program majors available to you. You may take advantage of as many advising sessions as you need. Additonal assistnace is available through:

  • Career and Experiential Learning Center: A library of career related and practical information will assist you as you look at career possibilities. The Mount Guide to Majors and Careers is also available through the Center.
  • Career counseling by appointment: A counselor will guide you through interest inventory programs, such as Self-Directed Search and DISCOVER, an internet based career guidance system that enables you to explore and identify skills, experiences, and values.
  • Service Learning Opportunities: You can participate in one day service projects with classmates for real experience in the real world.

Once students officially declare a major, they are assigned to an academic advisor in the department of their major. All students are assigned an academic advisor upon completion of the admission process, which is administered through the Office of Admissions.

Students are encouraged to work closely with their assigned advisor in order to clarify educational objectives, establish a sequence of courses which will include necessary prerequisites to enter more advanced courses, and to project a plan of study determining which courses satisfy degree requirements. The final responsibility for meeting all program/degree requirements and being informed of College regulations and procedures rests with the student.
