Master of Arts degree - Education Major (Professional Advancement)

Professional advancement programs are offered to practicing teachers who wish to enhance their skills in the classroom or advance within the ranks of the school to positions of leadership while obtaining a master of arts in education.

The Mount offers these options for those seeking professional advancement:

Instructional Leadership
Reading Science
Reading Endorsement Program
Concentration in Art
Concentration in Music


Instructional Leadership
The Instructional Leadership program has 2 tracks. The Excellence in Teaching track is intended for those who wish to improve their skill in the classroom, while becoming a leader among their professional peers.  The School Principal track will lead to licensure as an elementary or secondary school principal.  See the graduate catalog for course requirements and more information.  

Reading Science
The Reading Science concentration features a curriculum based on the recommendations of the National Reading Panel report and attempts to balance the whole language approach with the scientifically-based reading research model.  Graduates of the program will have the skills to implement evidence-based reading instruction and/or intervention.  See the graduate catalog for course requirements and more information. 

Reading Endorsement Program
The Reading Endorsement Program, developed according to Ohio Department of Education standards provides an in-depth knowledge base related to the theories, practice and technology in the field of reading education.  Adding the Reading Endorsement to an Ohio teaching license will allow educators to teach reading across the grade bands.  See the graduate catalog for course requirements and more information.

Concentration in Art
The Mount's Education Department offers the Master of Arts degree, Education major:  concentration in Art degree for the student who holds a bachelor's degree and teaching certificate/license and wishes to become a more insightful and effective art educator while engaging in creative problem solving experiences in a supportive environment.  These programs are accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) and approved by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE).    See the graduate catalog for course requirements and more information.
 
Concentration in Music
The Mount's Education Department offers the Master of Arts degree, Education major:  concentration in Music degree for the student who holds a bachelor's degree and teaching certificate/license and wishes to become a more insightful and effective music educator while engaging in creative problem solving experiences in a supportive environment.  These programs are accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) and approved by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE).   This degree is offered in the Education Division's Professional Advancement program.
