Master of Arts in Education
Concentration in Reading Science
The Mount’s Education Department is shifting the focus of its graduate program in reading to incorporate more than 20 years of scientific research into how children learn to read. This change will help teachers gain new skills to teach reading to their students.
Beginning in the fall of 2008, the graduate program in reading will feature a curriculum that emphasizes:
- Fluency
- Comprehension
- A solid foundation in phonics and linguistics.
Research shows that using these methods produces effective results with children who are struggling to read including children who have dyslexia.
The Mount’s is the first master’s degree in reading offered in the Greater Cincinnati area that is based on recommendations of the National Reading Panel report.
