Application Process

Students must be admitted to the College of Mount St Joseph before applying for Project EXCEL.

Students interested in Project EXCEL are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Space is limited; therefore, each application is evaluated carefully to identify students whose needs best match the nature of support offered in Project EXCEL. The following steps are necessary to complete the processing of an application:

1.    Completion of the following downloadable forms:

o    EXCEL General Information Form (PDF 54KB)
o    EXCEL Applicant Information Form (PDF 22KB)
o    EXCEL School Record Form (PDF 32KB)  - for traditional students only (PDF 32KB) (educational data provided by teacher or academic counselor).

2.    Submission of the following data: 

o    Documentation of Specific Learning Disability (psycho-educational evaluation administered within three years of application)
o    Letter of Recommendation (from any non-family member who knows you well)

3.    On Campus interview with the Director of Project EXCEL.

Documentation of specific learning disability (SLD

The documentation must be a psychoeducational evaluation administered within three years of application or current Multi-Factored Evaluation (MFE) or Evaluation Team Report (ETR) with psychoeducational evaluation administered within four years of application.  The documentation must present evidence of a specific learning disability and reasonable evidence that college academic requirements can be successfully met.  The tests administered and scores achieved must be part of the report.

Academic problems existing concomitant with a diagnosed Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD) will be considered in the review of the diagnostic profile and documentation.

Official disability documentation must be mailed directly to Project EXCEL from the original source.  In order to be considered eligible for admission to Project EXCEL, the assessment must be recent, conducted by a certified and/or licensed professional, and include the following:

•    Aptitude Testing (must include scaled scores)
     Preferred measure:  
        o    Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale Third Edition (WAIS-III) or Fourth Edition ( WAIS-IV)

•    Achievement Testing (must include standard scores)
     Preferred measures:  
        o    Wechsler Individual Achievement Test - Second Edition (WIAT-II)
        o    Woodcock-Johnson Psycho-educational Battery III: Tests of Achievement
              (W-III)

•    Disclosure of all concomitant conditions
     Must include:
        o    Diagnostic summary stating DSM diagnosis  
        o    Discussion of functional implications
        o    Recommendations for the post-secondary setting

NOTE: Students must be admitted to the College of Mount St. Joseph before applying for Project EXCEL.
