The Department of Education strives to help  prospective teachers to acquire those understandings, competencies and appreciations which will equip them to meet the needs of children and youth in our schools, to attain insights into the role and place of the school in today's complex and changing society, and to perceive the teacher's goal to be that of assisting each learner to attain knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values defined by Ohio's Academic Content Standards.

The College of Mount St. Joseph's Teacher Education Program is accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council for a period of  five years, from 2007 to 2012.
