Academic Vice President, Christian Brothers University, Memphis, TN, Aug 2004 – May 2008. Chief Academic Officer responsible for a maintaining a quality 95 member faculty delivering a rigorous curriculum to 1800 undergraduate and graduate students. Responsible for four Academic Schools, Enrollment Management, Institutional Research, Information Technology, Registrar, Library, and Student Services. With the CFO, co-chairs the Administrative Council and is responsible for day-to-day operations of the University. Chairs the Academic Council, Rank and Tenure Committee, and several other university committees. Performs the duties of President in his absence. As a member of the President’s Cabinet, oversees a yearly budget of $35M.
• Initiated and led an ongoing strategic planning effort that has laid the foundation for future growth and success of CBU.
• Worked with members of the Enrollment Management Committee to significantly reverse declining enrollments.
• Integrated all non-traditional student enrollment management into a new office of Graduate and Professional Studies.
• Worked with the deans and directors to increase the efficient use of faculty, staff, and operating budgets to deal with significant revenue shortfalls, including the difficult elimination of faculty and staff positions.
• Helped with the development of three new graduate programs, six new undergraduate programs, and CBU’s first ever online and hybrid programs.
• Provided the conceptual model and initiated the development of CBU’s unique Master of Arts in Executive Leadership and Ethical Leadership Certificate programs.
• Established and currently working to fund the Center for Ethical Leadership that delivers non-credit continuing education in ethics and leadership development.
• Helped establish several new cooperative business partnerships, including becoming one of the preferred education providers for FedEx.
• Oversaw the development, implementation, and assessment of a new General Education curriculum, which includes a new signature freshman core course on faith and community.
• Created the CBU Early College program, which allows students to earn CBU credit while still in high school.
• Re-established a collegial shared governance philosophy with the Faculty Assembly, including a revitalized Curriculum Committee.
Founding Director of the Academy Scholars Program and Director of Academic Strategic Planning, USAF Academy, June 2002-June 2004.
Founding Director of the Academy Scholars Program responsible for managing an interdisciplinary liberal arts curriculum of 13 core courses across seven departments. Assisted in leading a staff of 27 professionals who provide faculty development, educational assessment, research support, and education technology support. Senior faculty consultant to USAF Academy leadership on curriculum, faculty development, academic assessment, and educational technology. Directly responsible for academic assessment and faculty development during temporary vacancies.
• Led a successful strategic planning effort to create the Academy Scholars Program, an honors core curriculum that uses a learning community pedagogy based on the interdisciplinary theme of “The Development of the Western Mind” and a Great Books curriculum.
• Helped develop theoretical context for new cadet leadership development program implemented to foster the cultural transformation needed to deal with a major sexual assault crisis.
• Chair of the Unit Major Program Review Committee responsible for a mid-cycle accreditation academic self study.
• Led a politically sensitive and successful site visit evaluation of the King Faisal Air Academy, Saudi Arabia.
• Helped design and facilitate a faculty development workshop series on the Association of American Colleges & University’s Greater Expectations report.
• Served on committees to design and implement a new interdisciplinary freshman seminar.
• Member of two faculty committees examining shared governance and faculty tenure, retention, and contract issues.
• Responsible for the usability design and analyses for the new campus web portal.

American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow, Regis University CO, 2001-2002.
Competitively selected to participate in the nation’s premier higher education leadership development program. Served as a full time member of Regis University’s senior leadership staff. Mentored by the President, Chancellor, Provost, several Vice Presidents, and Deans on the knowledge and skills required for university leadership. Interviewed over 60 presidents, provosts, and vice presidents on leadership issues and challenges.
• Ad hoc member of the President’s Staff, the Provost’s Vice Presidents Staff, the Vice President and Dean of the School for Professional Studies’ Staff, the Executive Budget Committee, the Academic Dean’s Council, the Academic Planning and Policy Council, the Administrative Policy Team for Collective Bargaining, and the Regis Operations Improvement Group.
• Prepared a university policy on search and hiring procedures for faculty and professional staff to include special emphasis on the Catholic and Jesuit mission.
• Prepared several concepts on how the university could restructure itself to handle the large growth of the School for Professional Studies and expected growth in the other schools.
• Provided recommendations for a university policy on intellectual property.
• Co-authored an ACE Fellows Leadership Project on the past, present, and future of interdisciplinary education.
Deputy Department Head and Director of Leadership Programs, Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership, USAF Academy, 2000-2001. Assisted the Department Head in managing all aspects of a department with 40 faculty, 25 courses, and 2500 students, including oversight of the department curriculum, human resources, and budget. Supervised three cadet leadership development programs. Assisted the Character Development Center in designing and teaching character development programs.
• Personally handled several critical issues during a period of large personnel turnover and curricular change.
• Chaired a Faculty Forum committee that recommended curricular and schedule changes to address challenges raised by an NCA accreditation report.
• Significantly overhauled and presented the ethical decision making portion of a capstone ethical leadership workshop presented to all graduating seniors.

• Helped lead the educational assessment portion of the self study for an NCA accreditation site visit.
• Chaired a significant curriculum reform effort of the Behavioral Sciences major.

Responsible for the fiscal and operational oversight of eight professionals who developed and presented an integrated, multi-year faculty development program for 19 departments and over 500 faculty members. Directed a yearly, week-long new instructor orientation program for over 125 new faculty members. Supervised the information technology staff and the computer-networked classroom for educational research. Responsible for institutional educational outcomes assessment.
• Helped facilitate faculty transition toward a student centered learning paradigm.
