Dr. Tony Aretz is the sixth president of the College of Mount St. Joseph. Since joining the Mount in 2008, Dr. Aretz has directed the formation and initiation of a three-year College strategic plan, which includes the launch of the new Ethical Leadership Development Initiative.
Before assuming his current position, Dr. Aretz served as the academic vice president at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tenn. Following his arrival at CBU in 2004, Dr. Aretz helped develop CBU’s strategic plan, the Center for Ethical Leadership, and several new graduate and undergraduate programs. Prior to joining CBU, Dr. Aretz was a 17-year faculty member at the United States Air Force Academy where he was the founding director of the Air Force Academy Scholars Program and director of academic strategic planning. He taught a variety of courses in engineering psychology, psychology, leadership, research, and statistics while at the academy. Dr. Aretz retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel after serving 28 years.
In 2010 Dr. Aretz completed Leadership Cincinnati, a 10-month competitive leadership program sponsored by the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber. He is currently a member of the board of trustees for Seton High School. Dr. Aretz has a long-standing dedication to working with the Boy Scouts of America at the national and local levels on ethics and leadership.
Dr. Aretz received a doctorate in engineering psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; a master’s degree in applied behavioral science in human factors from Wright State University; and a bachelor’s degree in human factors engineering and counseling from the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he was a distinguished graduate. Dr. Aretz and his wife, Terry, have been married for 28 years and have three sons, Tommy, David and Michael.
