"The Fair Society: Responsible Leadership and the Pursuit of Social Justice"
Tuesday, March 15, 2011
7:00 P.M.
College Theatre, College of Mount St. Joseph
Featuring Keynote Speaker
Peter Corning
Author of
"The Fair Society: The Science of Human Nature and the Pursuit of Social Justice"
In “The Fair Society” he makes the provocative argument that humans have an innate sense of fairness and that it must be the basis for any stable and harmonious society. Corning also calls for a new social contract based on a commitment to fairness and he proposes a sweeping set of economic and political reforms based on three principles of fairness – equality, equity, and reciprocity – that he believes could transform our society and our world.
Corning taught in the Human Biology Program at Stanford University for many years and is the long-time director of the Institute for the Study of Complex Systems. He is well known for a theory of evolutionary complexity that he proposed in “The Synergism Hypothesis” (1983), and he is the author more than 150 professional journal articles in the biological and social sciences. He is also on the editorial board of the Journal of Bioeconomics and Politics and the Life Sciences.
Reception and book signing by Mr. Corning follows the lecture.
This program is free and open to the public.
