Nancy Welty ’07 has been living the College of Mount St. Joseph's mission since earning her Certificate for Parish Nursing from the Department of Religious and Pastoral Studies. She is currently the RN Case Manager for the Fayette Regional Health System in Connersville, IN, and spends her free time volunteering with her town’s Community Health Ministry, a service that she helped initiate.

Service to Others

One Saturday a month, Welty volunteers with other health professionals to take blood pressure and blood sugar readings, answer health related questions and hand out pamphlets. Welty hopes to sustain the Health Ministry program—which encourages “health and wellness consistent with the gospel of Jesus Christ”—by working with local churches and pastors.

Integration of Life and Learning

Welty is also involved in parish nursing in her own congregation, where she shares wellness articles in the monthly newsletter and helped create a “grief ministry” that visits with and distributes reading materials for those coping with grief. The valuable lessons she learned at the Mount have helped Welty in her job and extensive volunteer work, she says. In the future she hopes to find a full-time career in health ministry.
