In today’s society, music has an enormous impact on people and their personal and social lives. Whether they make the music themselves or simply just enjoy listening to it, almost everyone loves music of some kind. In all of my years of following and studying hip-hop/rap music and learning almost everything I can about the genre, it is rare to see artists have such an impact and influence as The Migos have had not only on the genre of music, but on people as a whole.

The Migos (Quavo, Offset, & Takeoff) have been one of the most popular and successful new music acts of the last few years ever since their breakout single ‘Versace” in 2013 which went on to be remixed by world famous rap artist Drake. The rap trio, which is from Atlanta, Ga., has had their share of successes with their unique style and flow of music. The group has been nominated for a total of four BET-related awards in 2014 and 2015. On top of those four awards, the group has also recently had a number one song on the Billboard Hot 100 song with their hit “Bad and Boujee” off their newest album Culture. With two albums under the belt and numerous mixtapes over the years, The Migos have become a staple not just in Atlanta, but also all over the country.

The range of The Migos brand is not exclusive to just actual music; in 2016 the trio all appeared in an episode of the popular FX show Atlanta starring Donald Glover where they all three got to show off their acting chops for a number of scenes. At the Golden Globe awards last month, Glover thanked The Migos for making “Bad and Boujee” which certainly gave the Migos even more notoriety. On top of acting, the group also invented the hit dance move the “dab” in 2015 based off their Top 100 single “Look At My Dab.” The “dab” not only became a popular dance move, but also partially led to the creation of The Migos’ own flavor of chips called “Dab of Ranch” by the chip company “Rap Snack.”  The dance became so popular that everyone, including professional athletes and celebrities, was (and might still be) doing it. This includes Carolina Panthers superstar quarterback Cam Newton who made the dance his signature touchdown celebration during the Panthers’ Super Bowl year in 2015.

The impact of The Migos not just being successful musical artists in their own right, but having invented their own unique brand of style and lifestyle has led to them becoming without a doubt one of the more popular music acts of the last five years. Not only have The Migos released two albums and a number of mixtapes over the years, the trio has also been featured in countless other artists’ songs. Big time rap artists such as Gucci Mane, Rae Sremmurd, French Montana, and The Game have all had a number of Migos features on various songs over the years. Their latest album Culture is available to purchase now and features some big time hip-hop/rap artists such as Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, Travis Scott, and DJ Khaled among others. If you follow music and stay up to date on the up-and-comers in the industry, then it is time to start paying a great deal of attention to The Migos as they are a music group that is going to be heard from for a long time to come as staples in the rap world.
