Runners and walkers of all ages can “Race With the Lions” at the inaugural MSJ 5k on Friday, September 5, 2014, which will kick-off the Knowlton Classic football game the following day between Mount St. Joseph University and Augustana College. This year marks the 25th year of Mount football and former players and coaches will be honored at Saturday’s game.
The 5k run/walk starts at 6:45 p.m. on the track of Schueler Field. Registration and packet pickup begins at 5 p.m. The race course is mostly flat with a slight elevation, over track, grass and asphalt. It will start on the track of Schueler Field, loop around the track and follow the Mount’s campus to the Sisters of Charity Motherhouse on Bender Road. The race finishes on the track of Schueler Field. A post-race celebration will feature food, music provided by a DJ, bounce houses for children, and a wellness fair featuring area vendors and organizations. The awards ceremony will be held at 8 p.m. and trophies will be awarded for age group and awards for youngest and oldest runners.
“The MSJ 5k will be a great race for those getting ready to run the Queen Bee Half Marathon in downtown Cincinnati in October, or those who just enjoy casual running or walkers,” said BC Charles-Liscombe, associate professor of athletic training at the Mount and the event’s organizer. “Runners will be bib-timed, and enjoy a nice run around campus while going past the beautiful grounds of the Motherhouse. This will be a fun time for the whole family while promoting wellness activities.”
The MSJ 5k is sponsored by Beacon Orthopedics and HealthWorks and proceeds will benefit health and wellness programming at the Mount.
The cost to enter is $20 in advance or $25 same-day registration. Undergraduate Mount students can enter for $5, courtesy of a discount sponsored by the Campus Activities Board (CAB). Runners also receive free tickets to the following day’s Knowlton Classic football game at the Mount against Augustana College. Runners can register online at www.runningtime.net or call BC Charles-Liscombe at 513-244-4542 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
