The College of Mount St. Joseph presented the 2013 Distinguished Scholar Award to Mark Fischer, Ph.D. The annual award is presented to an associate or full professor to recognize the skill and contributory aspect of his or her career as a distinguished scholar who has been nationally and/or internationally recognized.
Fischer has been a chemistry professor at the Mount since 1999, and teaches physics and astronomy, and said that out of all of his accomplishments, he is most proud of presenting two papers at an international mycology conference in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Outside of work, Fischer plays the trumpet in two bands, and enjoys geocaching.
He lives with his wife, Annemarie, and two children in North College Hill.
The College of Mount St. Joseph is an undergraduate and graduate Catholic college that provides an interdisciplinary liberal arts and professional curriculum emphasizing values, service and social responsibility.
