Department of English and Modern Languages professor Elizabeth Bookser Barkley, Ph.D., lives the College of Mount St. Joseph’s mission of community involvement. Dr. Barkley and Cincinnati Enquirer writer Krista Ramsey will team up for their second year hosting the Marie D. Pfeifer Writing Competition.

The competition will be open to young people ages 6 to 16, but will also include senior citizens. Dr. Barkley and Ms. Ramsey added a second bracket this year for ages 66 to 106 in response to a multitude of pieces submitted last year by seniors. Writers from the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area can submit poems, short stories or essays—up to 400 words—by December 30. Dr. Barkley and Ms. Ramsey will choose two winners from each bracket.
