Beyond Civility “Back to Back” to feature Lou Blessing and Denise Driehaus on May 2 at the Mount

File Under: ethical leadership

Beyond Civility, a non-profit group that promotes constructive dialogue among civic and elected leaders, announces its first Back-to-Back featuring Denise Driehaus (D) and Lou Blessing (R) in the College Theatre at the College of Mount St. Joseph on Thursday, May 2. Refreshments will be offered at 5:30 p.m. The program will be 6:30-8 p.m.

The event features pairs of public figures from two political parties discussing issues by explaining the opposite party’s view. Learn and have fun as these seasoned politicians flex their skills by demonstrating their understanding of their opponents’ positions.

Research shows that people discredit or disbelieve even accurate information when presented by someone they view as adversarial to their point of view. This event tests our ability to listen to and learn another point of view from someone we may trust.

The Mount is honored to be a part of the Side-by-Side series because of the shared value of promoting leadership. The Mount recently created an Ethical Leadership Development Initiative, which is woven into core classes for students and teaches valuable skills, such as effective communication and critical thinking skills, employers seek.

Admission is free, but reservations are required. Space is limited!
