What is CommunitySafe?
ComunitySafe is a system that will be used by the Mount to notify students, faculty, and staff members of weather-related closings/delays as well as campus emergency/crisis situations via phone messages (voice and text). The Hamilton County sirens will continue to alert us for tornado or severe thunderstorm warnings, therefore we do not expect to use the CommunitySafe system in these situations.
How does it work?
- The College records a voice message and a text message to be sent out to the campus community. All voice messages sent by this system will come from caller ID 513-347-7233. All text messages sent by this system will come from caller ID 85816.
- The CommunitySafe system then immediately begins forwarding the message to each phone number in the call distribution list.
- The first attempt to contact each phone number in the call distribution list will be completed in less than 30 minutes. This means that some individual phones will receive the message almost immediately after the message is sent while other phones will not receive the message for several minutes. The CommunitySafe system will make three attempts to send the message to each phone number and will complete these three attempts within two hours. These are current industry standards for emergency notification systems.
Mount employees and students can select to receive the notifications as voice calls only, text messages only, or both for each phone number they enter. Only current students and employees will be included on the notification list.
All Mount campus office phone numbers and Seton Hall land line phone numbers for all RAs have been automatically entered into the CommunitySafe system. These do not need to be entered again by each student, faculty, or staff member. Students living on campus who want to include their Mount residential phone number in the CommunitySafe system must enter that phone number themsleves.
The Mount has paid for this system and there is no charge for individuals to include their phone numbers. Whenever the system sends a message to phone numbers entered by students and employees, those students and employees are responsible for any charges from their phone service provider associated with receiving voice or text messages.
Students and employess who do not enter any phone numbers for themselves will not receive any CommunitySafe/MSJ Emergency Notifications outside of the automatically entered numbers mentioned above. Any phone number employees and students enter will only be used by the Mount and will not be sold to or made available to any other companies or organizations.
