Biography:

Rev. Dr. John Amankwah is an associate professor in the Department of Communication and New Media Studies. Born in Ghana and a naturalized citizen of the United States of America, Professor Amankwah was ordained as a Catholic priest June 30, 1979 and spent the first two years working in the parish. In the subsequent years, he served as a clergy personnel and director for the Center for Human Development for the Ghana Bishops’ Conference.

In 1995, Rev. Dr. Amankwah came to the United States to study at Duquesne University where he graduated with master's degrees in corporate communication and social and public policy. He also holds a Ph.D. in Communication and Rhetorical Studies from Duquesne. Before coming to the Mount, he taught at Duquesne and the University of Pittsburgh.

Rev. Dr. Amankwah has authored "Dialogue: The Church and the Voice of the Other," published in early 2007 and has co-authored a textbook, "Philosophies of Communication: Implications of Everyday Life." He has presented several articles at different academic conferences and has also jointly published in the journal of Border Education. His academic interests are in the area of "dialogue" in the Catholic Church, Intercultural and Organizational Communication Issues.

Rev. Dr. Amankwah recently gave a commencement speech on Civic Education and National Development in Ghana. Excerpts of the speech was carried in the National Newspapers.

Rev. Dr. Amankwah enjoys reading, socializing with colleagues and traveling.
