Ph.D. Seventeen-Century Literature and Rhetoric, Miami University, M.A. Theology, Xavier University
Dr. Serraino is an associate professor in the English and Modern Languages Department at the Mount. She holds a Ph.D in seventeen-century literature and rhetoric from Miami University, as well as an M.A. in theology from Xavier University. Among her course offerings are medieval heroes, renaissance outlaws, Shakespearean drama, written communication, and women’s studies.
Dr. Serraino's personal and research activities center on “reading” the traditional forms of expression available to women through the arts and crafts of quilting, weaving, and other handiwork. She also studies the representations of “women’s work” in literary texts. Her course, “Reading between the Stitches” explores these topics with students. She has recently published on the survival of the weaving tradition in Sicily.
