Pre-professional studies at Mount St. Joseph University are courses of study prepared by expert faculty members that supplement your existing major and better prepare you for a career as a health professional.

Pre-professional studies offer dedicated guidance from faculty members in the School of Behavioral and Natural Sciences and School of Health Sciences to help tailor your course work so that you are better prepared to pursue an advanced degree.

Career outlook

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that from 2008 to 2018, 26 percent of all new jobs created in the U.S. economy will be in the health care and social assistance industry. This industry is expected to grow by 24 percent, creating four million new jobs.

Occupational Therapist

Occupational Therapists are health care professionals who assist individuals of all ages in activities associated with everyday life and occupational concerns. Occupational therapists provide comprehensive evaluations of the client’s home, school and work environments, make recommendations for adaptive equipment and training in its use, therapeutic interventions to achieve maximal outcomes and provide education for family members and caregivers when needed. Occupational therapists utilize a holistic perspective in which the focus is on adapting an individual’s environment to fit the person.

Pre-Occupational Therapist

Many professional occupational therapy education programs are a combined bachelor’s/master's program. These programs often take transfer students into the master’s program, but may require individuals to complete transitional course work at their institutions in order to be admitted into their occupational therapy professional education programs.

Health Professions Advisory Committee

Students work with their academics advisors as well as faculty members on the Health Professions Advisory Committee to design a course of study that is best suited for their specific career goals.
