My Photography presentation has been displayed, burned to a CD, and given to my professor. My CD cover booklet for Digital Design has been printed, folded, assembled and turned in. I’ve completed the finishing touches on my last few drawing pieces.

My Sophomore year at the Mount is finished.

Perhaps it was fate that the day after I finished my second year of college, I was drafted to go help out at the elementary school I graduated from in 2003. The building has changed very much in the years since I’ve left, but it still feels very familiar. Guardian Angels School is where my life began. There, I learned my ABCs, how much 2 x 4 is, and the mystery and wonder of Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH and The Hobbit.

But now I attend the College of Mount Saint Joseph, the place where my education most likely will end. After I leave here I will become a professional designer and photographer… I hope! Then college will be the years I look back on fondly, remembering all the good times I had, just like my grade school has become.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said “For everything you have missed, you have gained something else, and for everything you gain, you lose something else.”

Now that I’m at the Mount, grade school and high school and all of the friends that came with them are gone. Now I look to the future as I finish another year in my college career.

This year has been great… two symphonic band concerts, a hit musical. New friends and tons of drawings and photos and digital pieces that say I’m growing as an artist and a designer. As always, I’m sort of sad to be leaving the Mount for the summer. But I’m excited to remember I’ll be back next fall.

Next semester will be my greatest challenge as a Mount Student yet! And I hope to be here to share it with every one of you.
