Big Yellow Bus Blues

Remember when you were younger and rode the school bus?  At the bus stop there would be six, seven, eight or more kids waiting to get on and then off.  At least thats the way it was where and when I grew up.  Now today I was driving along behind a bus.  Tell me if its just me, or has the public school bus system become a door to door curbside service.  It seems like every 40 feet the blinkers came on and the little "stop" sign folds out the side of the bus, and a kid jumps off right in front of their house.  They practically set foot on their own front porch, like Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon.  Seriously, no wonder there's an obesity problem in this country.  I mean, I didn't walk to school 3 miles uphill both ways barefoot in the snow, but I walked more than the length of the bus to get to the bus stop.  And now there's parents always waiting on the porch for the kids.  Are we so paranoid these days that kids need to be deployed mere feet from the safety of home and the watchful eye of a parent?  Meanwhile the traffic builds as we play stop and go at every other house.  Has this ever happened to anyone but me?  Can you feel my frustration?  Am I an impatient driver?  What the frosted flakes is going on?
