Happiness is the Key to Success

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.I have always wondered how I will know I have been successful. It might sound like a dumb thought, but how do you know that you have succeeded at the 4 years you have been in college. Some might think well that’s easy, when they finally hand you your diploma. But when you get that diploma and you stand up on stage with all of the important administrators of the college, think to yourself do I even know these people? Have I taken the time to be involved, to ask questions, to have my voice heard? I was writing my scholarship essay for Project EXCEL and we had to write about why we were deserving of this award and what activities we have been involved in and how we have overcome our disability even in the face of obstacles. I wrote about a teacher who has taught me the most in my college career, Kim Burke. One of the most valuable things that she taught us is how to use our voice. She taught us that we need to question things, mainly referring to the design world. We need to question each other as to why we are doing things a certain way. This has carried over into my own life and has made me a more inquisitive and curious person. In college you have four years to learn so many things. Once you take control of your own education and life that is when you are able to be successful. I must admit I am a very outspoken individual, if someone is going to change things I am going to ask why. Now I do remember there are appropriate times and ways of doing so. But I believe that is the beauty of this school, I am able to speak my mind…well most of the time. This school is driven by its passion and mission to educate students. I know that next year when I go up to get my diploma and I look out and see those teachers, friends and family who have supported me, I know I have been successful!!
