After Florida and Start of Conference Play

Hey everyone.  Just so everyone can get a little update on how the baseball team is doing, we are currently 9-8.  The Florida trip was rough for us.  We struggled down there, although it's always better playing in 80 degree Florida weather then 40 degree Ohio weather.  Since our return from Florida we are 6-1 including 5-1 in the conference.  We swept our first conference series against Bluffton, and then beat Transylvania in a single game.  It definately looks like things are turning around.  We got to play Bluffton and Transy up at UC's field.  It's always nice playing there.  They have one of the best fields in college baseball.  The field is turf so you can usually avoid being rained out.  The batting cages are inside and the dugouts are heated.  There is also a restroom in the dugout.  As you can tell, I have been spending my fair share of time in the dugout.  As I was saying, it's always awesome getting to play at UC's field whenever they are on a road trip.  We just split two games at Franklin today, and we are supposed to close up the series tomorrow with one game at UC at one, so hopefully we'll get that one in.  Hopefully it will be warmer than today also.  I added a few pics from Florida and UC so everyone can get a feel for the fields we are playing on.

Spring Break!

Hey Folks! Hello again from the Mount!

I’ve just gotten back to the dorms after spending a nice week at home. Spring break was pretty nice! It was very timely as well, because I really needed a break!

The first weekend of break I had a blast! My roommate, Jimmy, and I both stayed in town, so we decided to plan a big get-together! Jim used to live in Pennsylvania, and two of his buddies from his old paintball team drove down and we played paintball all Saturday! After we were done we came back to my house, and we all ate a giant turkey dinner that my family had cooked for us. After that we played cards for the rest of the night. It was a really good time! Not to mention our buddies loaned us enough paintball gear that we should be able to play anytime we want!

The rest of the break was really relaxing! My teachers were all actually pretty nice, and I had very little homework over the break! I finished that up early in the week, and I pretty much just hung out all week! Jimmy and I spent most the week playing old-school video games. We broke out my old NES and SNES and played those for awhile. Its good fun to play those games we played growing up. It makes me laugh even more because I’m not as good at Super Mario World now as I was when I was 6 years old! Ha!

I used some free time over break to practice my sax for concert band, and that’s coming along very well! We also had a few small musical rehearsals during the week, to get our lines and characters down. Musical is going really well! I still hope you all can come out to see it!

Now we’re all back in the dorms, swapping pictures of Myrtle Beach and Tennessee… I’m just making sure I got everything in order before classes boot back up. Man, Jimmy and I left the dorm a mess! We’re trying to get the dorm a little cleaner before tomorrow.

Speaking of cleaning the dorm, I gotta get back to that! I hope everyone had a lovely spring break! See you all next week. ; )

Spring Break!

Hope you had a Happy Easter!

And with Easter comes spring break for most schools. I am actually just returning back to class from the College of Mount St. Joseph’s spring break.  A bunch of people around campus had big plans to head down to Florida on one of those little road trips I was tellin ya about earlier.  A few people went on cruises. Man, do I wish I were them!  I’ve never been on a cruise and I think it would be a blast.

So, while all these people had big plans, I was left in good ol’ Cincinnati because I was out of cash and had gotten swamped with school work. Luckily for me though, most people didn’t leave until after St. Patrick’s Day.  This allowed for at least a little chill time.

The rest of the week, however, was spent dodging the Great Flood we had in the Cincinnati Area and tryin to get some of my work done.  The flood was pretty exciting, there’s a river (The Little Miami River) right down the hill from my house that rose 10 feet above flood stage and did a lot of damage. Thankfully, there was no damage to my family’s property because of our location on top of a big hill.

Other than the flood, there really was no big excitement around here. This actually turned out to be for the best.  I spent some much needed time with my girlfriend, Jordan, and hung out with my family.  I also ran across some old friends from middle school, which was pretty cool.

And then of course Easter rolled around to finish off the break.  The weekend flew, as do most holiday weekends do, and was packed with family events from Jordan’s family and my own.

Overall, I really don’t regret not having any big trips planned for spring break. It would have been cool to get away, don’t get me wrong, but the time I spent with my family and girlfriend was very relaxing and recharged me to take on the rest of the semester.

If you had your spring break already, I hope it was fun and relaxing. And if you are currently on spring break or it’s still on the horizon, make good use of your time!
